Ever since we announced Endless Dungeon, we have heard countless questions from our fans: Is this game in any way related to Dungeon of the Endless, given the name? How do you control heroes? Is this came more focused on strategy or action? Will there be multiplayer? Will there be Horatio? And many, many other burning questions.
To answer all these questions, we've now kicked off the Feature Focus series for Endless Dungeon. Check out "Episode 01: Welcome to the Station!" below:
Amplitude is perhaps best known for our expertise with turn-based strategy games, such as Endless Space, Endless Legend, and most recently Humankind. But back in 2014, we took a step into the rogue-lite genre with Dungeon of the Endless (a game that was, frankly, conceived on a whim at a party). In Dungeon of the Endless, you had to fight your way through floor after floor of an ancient ruin after crashlanding on the planet of Auriga, using turrets and your heroes’ skills to protect your ship's power source along the way as you use it to power your escape.
Dungeon of the Endless won many awards for its game design, and developed a passionate fanbase, but even knowing that we were surprised by just how enthusiastic the reaction was when we announced Endless Dungeon at the end of last year. Endless Dungeon is a spiritual successor to Dungeon of the Endless and preserves many of its core elements. However, we still saw potential to explore new ideas and gameplay with these core concepts.
Much like in its predecessor, your goal in Endless Dungeon is to escape the Endless facility your ship crashed into, but physically making it to the end won’t be enough this time, as this place holds deeper secrets. To unravel these mysteries, you will have to escort your crystal through the dungeon, protecting it from waves of monsters with a variety of turrets, and your heroes’ weapons and abilities, and good planning. With direct control of the heroes, and a cast of colorful characters (four of whom we have already glimpsed in the trailers), the heroes may be more important than ever in Endless Dungeon, as each brings their own special set of skills, and their individual backgrounds.
Exploring an ancient, run-down space station is not a job of a single hero all on their own, though, so Endless Dungeon will be playable either solo with AI companions, or in coop multiplayer. We hope to deliver a great coop experience, so you can have fun exploring the dungeon with your friends.
Of course, as with all of the Endless games, we want to involve our community in the creation of Endless Dungeon. When we announced the game, we started a series of votes. You have already voted for the names of several heroes and band members, and more votes are yet to come. Right now, the name of the band is being decided, so make your voice heard!
We hoped you enjoyed this first (of many) Feature Focuses for Endless Dungeon!
