Awakening the Academy

We know many of you have been eager for more information about the next expansion for Endless Space 2. We've been just as eager to tell you more about what we have been working on together with NGD. Today, we can finally tell you about some of the new content in Endless Space 2: Awakening.

In Awakening, Isyander and the Academy take center stage, and possibly the center constellation. They will control the Academy home system like a major empire and expand by colonising new systems. Make no mistake, however: That Isyander prefered not interfering with your plans in the past does not mean that the Academy is defenseless, protecting their territory and interests with powerful fleets.

The Academy will also interact with you diplomatically. Isyander will regularly request resources from you to aid his research and plans. In exchange for your economic support, Isyander will grant you powerful positions within the structure of the Academy, giving you access to powerful abilities as well as the flagships of the different branches of the Academy, for example the Warden of Knowledge. However, if you attack the Academy, Isyander will refuse your contributions until you have paid (in Dust) for your transgressions.

If you are on good terms with Isyander, you can attain one of the following roles (provided you outbid the competition):

  • As the Spear of Isyander, you will be in command of the Academy’s powerful attack fleet, to use as you see fit.
  • The Master of Dust has the keys to the Academy’s coffers, specifically their diplomatic reserves, and can use this stock of Dust to grease some palms.
  • The Vault Keeper can draw on the vast knowledge of the Academy to pass laws of parties not currently in power in their senate.
  • As Librarian you can ask Isyander questions about the state of the galaxy, gaining valuable insight into how well your enemies are doing or learning more about the Endless universe.

We will talk about this and more on stream this Thursday, September 5th, at 5pm CEST (4pm BST, 11am EDT, 8am PDT), so set your reminder and tune in on Twitch.

Come back here tomorrow for more information about the new faction, the Nakalim!

Sooooo This seems dope.  Do we only get this interaction by owning Harrow (or whatever the Academy's system is named, I've totally forgotten) or is this for anybody, even if they don't have a colony on the Academy?

I spy...

The screenshot with Academy-controlled system shows a new piece of interface, below the pirate marker. Also, I do not recognize the quest name. I am more than sure those are the Nakalim features.
The quest is marked as religious and Senate is religious, so it's probably their dominant political party.
The new piece of interface has numbers of stuff and symbols of: technology, empire and heroes. I have no idea what they do, but based on "fallen empire" theme I remember from the Nakalim (which the quest name reinforces) I guess those may be some kind of supplies or lost technology&things you can use to boost development.

Anyone willing to join?

Note that in the screenshot, Harrow is owned by The Academy. If you happen to own Harrow, Isyander will probably be rather displeased.

Finally, Academy is given a more prominent role. That's how it should've been from the beginning. It always felt strange that Isyander was at the core of ES2 story, but had almsot no impact on gameplay aside of Isyander's Gambit.

Question. Will quest, that demand Academy protection from rogue Vodyani fleets, be reworked/revised, now that Vodyani has it's own proper protection? Can Spear of Isyander be destroyed?

Bonus question. Will Academy ships use "Heretic" fleet skin? :3

They definitely are, because first icon looks just like that thing that hangs on Nakalim's leader belt on that promotional capsule image.

Not a major faction though, something similar to Pirate League.

Ideally, all the Academy-related quests should be organically woven into this DLC. Not necessarily expecting it but it would be pleasant if that was the case.

All sorts of nice things here. I'm glad that we'll finally be able to interact diplomatically with the Academy, and wonder how the various roles will impact the game. Looking forward to hearing more about this!

Hmm, if you open second screenshot with Isyander, where you at war with him - you may see something hidden by black paint on top Isyander's head  :o
Or mb its just my paranoia)

I look forward for Isyander and Nakalim. A little air of cultists with an Egyptian style. A date for the DLC ?
