Light in the dark: Part 01

When your fleet is approaching planet X, commander notices unusual light activity on the planet surface. It can be described as glow of vast city, but, firstly, planet isn't inhabited. Secondly, fleet's sensors can't capture images of this ocean of light at all; so far it can be observed with the naked eye only. Whatever emits so many lights that can be seen even from space, knowing its nature could be useful for us in the future.


Objective: Stay on the planet orbit for 5 turns to investigate anomaly.

Outcome: You didn't find much. But you have re-configured starship sensors so many times that now you are ready to complete almost any task with you ship equipment! +XP for hero / fleet


Light in the dark: Part 02

You land to continue research closer to anomaly. It appears that light comes from immense field of tall lilac grass: at night, each stem emits faint glow, and whole field lights as if in fire. You also find that field consists of separate colonies with something like 'colony hearts' in center of each. That luminosity is not the same from night to night - let's hope, it's not the end of season or something because we still have a lot discoveries to do!


Objective 1: Colonize the planet in X turns to establish export.

Outcome 1: Depending on situation, small bouquets of grass' glow can be considered as romantic or cryptic. People pay solid price to decorate their homes with it, and religious organizations agree to spend luxuries to have it. Oh, and changes of luminosity appear to be just a reaction to cold wind flows so your income should be stable! +luxury resource on planet


Objective 2: Spend X Dust to make full research of anomaly.

Outcome 2: You create well-appointed scientific camp to investigate nature of the effect and find if it can be useful for you in the future. Soon your investments pay off, and you not only discover specific benefits of having the grass fields untouched but also find that changes of luminosity is just a reaction to cold wind flows so field doesn't going to wither or die. +positive anomaly on planet


Light in the dark: Part 03

Popularity of new goods grows but supplies remain limited. As result, poachers arrive. Intentionally or not, but one of them stole not regular parts of turf but one of grass colonies Hearts – and is going to escape with it right now! Such loss could be sensitive by many reasons, so we need to deal with poacher's starship!


Objective 1: We can’t afford such damage to ecosystem (and our earnings, too). Since it's too dangerous to catch poacher in space, we have to chase bastard to his den!

Outcome 1: After few jumps, poacher hides on small asteroid in system Y. You weigh the risks and perform sudden attack on his den. Colony Heart is your again; it’s returning can’t fix anything but  should heal most of the damage poacher dealt. +X to Ecologist ideology


Objective 2: We’re too busy to chase that bastard across whole galaxy. Just shoot him down; our trading losses can't be that big.

Outcome 2: Starship explodes leaving only small cloud of debris. It should be a message for all: any crime will be stopped on the vine - and we have guns to do so! +X to Militarist ideology

Congrats for qualifying for the finals!


Modifications to this quest would include final outcomes (iirc political currents are an effect, not a reward), and a reworking of the last step's objectives.
