Heya - getting this in by the skin of my teeth!


Since the Mysterious Plague Ship was a hit on the last contest (but sadly lost), I've decided to expand on that idea for the Quest Creation Contest. Hopefully this is well-received too!


Please note: Devs can change any effects/rewards/outcomes they need to and if requested, I can change any of the flavor text.

Mysterious Plague Ship Redux


Chapter 1: Arrival

Your scientists have detected a heavily-damaged ship of unknown design entering your home system. The ship is unresponsive to hails, however sensors have detected that it will self-destruct soon! Scanning the ship, you discover that not only are there inhabitants in stasis who have been infected by a deadly plague, but also a dense computer core containing untold secrets. There is only time to save one of them before the ship explodes!


Objective 1:  Save the Core

Task: Spend (X) industry , (X) dust  for (X) turns

Outcome: +1 Random Technology


Objective 2: Save the Inhabitants

Task: Spend (X) industry , (X) dust for (X) turns

Outcome: + (X) Empire Approval  for (X) turns

Chapter 2: Revelation


Part A:

After analyzing the core, you not only learn that the inhabitants' homeworld was attacked by a malevolent race of aliens who conquer planets and quickly strip them of their resources before moving on, but are able to predict their next target as well. The aliens move fast, though, and won't stay at their last victory for long.  If you hurry, you can intercept them before they leave... or you can head to their next destination and lay a trap for them.


Objective 1: Head to [Planet X] and wait in ambush

Task: Go to [Planet X] in (X) turns and wait in ambush for (Y) turns.

Clarification: You have to take your fleet to [Planet X] within (X) amount of turns. Once you have arrived, you have to leave your fleet there for (Y) turns [where (Y) is a random amount] until the enemy fleet arrives. This is to add a little “twist” to the quest. The player may forget, or grow impatient leaving his fleet around this planet – and may move them before the alien fleet arrives, failing the quest)

Outcome: + 1 Ship Module (defense or vision related), +10% attack on fleet


Objective 2: Head to [Planet Y]

Task: Head to [Planet Y] within (X) turns to confront the aliens

Outcome: + military ideology, +1 Ship Module (offense)


Part B:

After rescuing the inhabitants, you learn that their homeworld was attacked by a malevolent race of aliens who conquer planets and quickly strip them of their resources. They were trying to reach [Planet Z] which is rumored to contain a resource to cure their plague as well as provide a new home when their ship was attacked. Although they desperately want to save their own race, they are concerned that if you don't deal with the aliens quickly they will move on to destroy other planets


Objective 1: Head to [Planet Z]

Task: Go to [Planet Z] to help the refugees

Outcome: +1 ship module (travel or vision)


Objective 2: Head to [Planet Y]

Task: Head to [Planet Y] within (X) turns to confront the aliens

Outcome: + military ideology, +1 Ship Module (offense)

Chapter 3: Retribution


Part A:

After lying in wait in orbit around the planet, the aliens finally arrive. Defend the planet and it's inhabitants against the invaders!


Objective 1:  Defend [Planet X]

Task: Defeat the incoming alien fleet and defend the planet

Outcome: +1 minor faction, + (X) empire approval for (X) turns, +10% Empire Points


Part B:

You reach the planet just as the aliens are preparing to leave. Avenge the planet's original inhabitants by defeating the alien fleet!


Objective 1: Defeat the Alien Scourge

Task: Avenge the planet's original inhabitants by defeating the alien fleet!

Reward: + 2 Random Technology, +5% empire points , +2 Strategic Resources for (X) turns


Part C:

You arrive at the planet, only to find that it is being used as a base for an enemy fleet. Defeat the aggressors and colonize the world!


Objective 1: Claim [Planet Z]

Task: Defeat the fleet surrounding the planet and colonize it within (X) turns

Reward: +1 minor faction, , +10% Empire Points , +2 Luxury Resouces for (X) turns

Hey Electroben! Awesome extension, you've got my vote~

Thought about putting one in, but things happen in 3s, I couldn't stand to get in the final vote and lose a thrid time :/

Good luck, though! This one's my favourite out of the lot.

I was actually looking for your entry when the new website came up! Think of it this way though - if you skip this contest, it will reset the "3's" rule!

Congrats for qualifying for the finals!


Modifications to this quest would include outcomes (you have several effects instead of rewards, for instance), and an inclusion of some variation in objectives (most of what you're asking players to do is bring a fleet somewhere and wait).
