The Legacy of the Unfallen - Among the Ruins

A terrible war.

Fire.

Light.

Agony... Everywhere.

Bugs-no- not bugs. Metal and flesh and... DUST...

All of the Unfallen, young and old, remember the Great War of Survival. The story of how the Abominations fell from the sky... Ripping, killing, burning, blasting... The forests fell and burned...

The Endless had come to the forest planet of Meshyuira, looking for... something. Not a colonizable planet, not treasure, but a test site. A test for their mechanized war machinesWhen their DUST-powered ships reached Meshyuira, their engines ruptured inexplicably, forcing the Concrete Endless to land upon the planet. The Concretes eventually died away, killed by their own living weapons! But their war machines remained, as did the DUST... Stimulated by the divine substance, the forests began to grow... and they didn't stop! Sentient trees arose, creating an unique culture and civilization.

The power of the DUST transformed the forests into a living network, a sentient collective being. The forests became truly individual, yet truly together. The new species became enthralled with their new consciousness, and began seeking the answer to their newfound cognizance. They began studying their ancestors: the inanimate trees and plants. They began studying, experimenting and growing; seeking to extend their enlightenment to the rest of Nature. They sought to be truly in tune with Nature and the Universe...

But the peaceful nation could not last: unwittingly activating the 'dead' Cravers, the new species was forced to learn quickly the art of war, using the remnants of the Endless weapons to defeat the Abominations... But at a cost. The war decimated huge swathes of sentient trees, and uncountable groves of non-sentient ones. Repulsed by the carnage, the Unfallen survivors declared that they might never again take up the weapons of the Endless, unless in times of great need.

Fearing for the survival of their race, the Unfalled bound together: selecting the wisest, the most cunning, the most empathic, and binding them toghether, albeit with liberal amounts of DUST: These selected individuals became the Atara Orn. The Mother Tree. Enlightened beyond any of the Unfallen, the Atara Orn commanded that other trees be fused, experimenting with the power of DUST, so that they might lead the way into the Great Emptiness...

---

I wanted to base this off the Cravers: Created by the Endless, endowed with their weapons... etc. But I decided a twist was necessary! They became an accident, survivors of a terrible war: fearing to ever pick up weapons again. (Sort of Galactic PTSD)

I'm new, and therefore open to any suggestions or recommendations.

Thanks!

That galactic PSTD is a great explanation to why the Unfallen are pacifists. Being ancient beings, I'm sure the elders pass knowledge to the younger ones. Having a shared consciousness could also continue to pass on the trauma of war onto the younger generation.

Sadly, You'll have to remove the mention of cravers for this to qualify, as mentioned in the answer to your question in the rules thread. Sorry. I left some ideas for you there. Fun story though!

Another piece of feedback: your story needs to introduce at least one Hero character. Your story only names the collective Unfallen mind... unless that's who you intend to become your Hero? Keep in mind that Heroes are usually members of a race that have, through one way or the other, become part of the Academy, so if they are central to the upholding of society, their absence becomes a little less... possible.
