Día de los Muertos Event Extended to December 21st

We have some news regarding the Día de los Muertos Event today.

First of all, we're sorry about the issues many of you have had with the event. We know losing progress on a challenge can put a real damper on your enjoyment of an event like this. The Civil Evolution and Necropolis challenges in particular have been reported as losing progress, while others say they have completed all challenges and unlocked Catrina, but are not able to use the Avatar. We have been following your reports and investigating the issues.

The good news is that we believe we have identified how to fix these issues.

The bad news is that we will not be able to deliver these fixes until mid December.

Since we could not fix these problems before the end of the month, we are extending the Día de los Muertos event until December 21st to give you time to make progress both before and after the patch releases. We know it may be a bit strange to have a Day of the Dead event running in December, but we want to make sure you've had a chance to complete the challenges in spite of the technical issues.

EDIT: For Clarity on the Patch and Rewards

The rewards will be given to anybody who has participated in the event before the fixes. When the patch releases, anybody who has made any progress on the challenges will receive the rewards. After the patch, normal challenge tracking will resume to give anybody who had not yet played the event a final chance to give it a shot with the progression bugs (hopefully) resolved.

And don't worry if you can't finish the challenges now or after the patch. There may well be other chances to earn Catrina and the other rewards in the future.

Have fun,

- The Amplitude Team

Thank you! You're all wonderful :) Love devs that listen to feedback, are quick to respond, and provide more opportunities to more players, especially those experiencing issues.

So you've decided to drop fixes right before end of the event? What?

No, seriously guys, are you high?

You've made a 4 weeks event. Because counters are bugged, you've extended it for 3 more weeks. And for 6 out of 7 weeks it is impossible to guarantee challenge completion.

I've lost progress for 5 challenges out of 6 (because World Faith doesn't have one, duh), and you speak only of 2? Why was this even happening, aren't they stored server-side? If they are, what takes so long to deliver fixes? If they don't... well, then, why the hell not?!

To be honest, I would rather have a free DLC for the game that unlocks everything.  That's (probably?) a far simpler solution and removes the silly FOMO component of this event.  Such a setup has already worked well in your other games.

Can you clarify, will the fix be retroactive? As in, if we make progress before the patch, will it count after the patch? Or is the patch going to reset everything and then we only have a week to earn it again? Your post implies the former, but you can make some people feel better, or at least avoid making them feel even worse later, if you clear it up now.

I think it is a bad decision, Amplitude did screw this event, the best they can do is admit a mistake, apologize, give rewards for everyone (it isn't even a big reward in the first place), don't rush fix, and learn for the future events.

You will receive the rewards, but the fixes are not fully retroactive.

Unfortunately, some progress data has been lost and cannot be restored, so the fixes cannot be retroactive. So instead we are giving the rewards to everybody who has made progress on the event before the patch releases. The extra week after is just for anybody who wants to jump in after the patch.

Sorry we were not clear about that in the announcement.

Well, it is a good decision then.

So what about the Mac version? I bought this game on preorder and still can’t play it because I only have mac. Im not even on the M1 Mac. Can all Mac users get a refund instead of only Mac M1 users?

The version for x86-based Macs left the beta stage with the Fabius Maximus Update at the beginning of November. You should be able to play. If you're still experiencing problems, could you give us more details (ideally by starting a dedicated thread in the bug reports section)?

Although I came here trying to work out why I can click Redeem for Catarina but can't actually redeem her (I fully completed the challenges) I'm surprised at how negative people are being. The event drew me back and showed me things I enjoy about the game. Thank you for the work you're doing and hopefully this gets fixed. It would be disheartening if I didn't get to use the cosmetics and avatar seeing as I find the customization side of the game a fun and unique part of human kind. Once again, thank you for the work you're doing.
