I have noticed, that once you have chosen the luxury resource for your system development project, you are stuck with that decision on all your systems for the remainder of the game.

Rather than that, I think it would be better to allow the player to decide on the luxury resource on a case by case basis.

Kind regards

What you suggest has actually been tested during development and we decided to go for a permanent choice to create more friction around resources on the map, so it works as designed :)

Hello there,

Since this idea has been mentioned on the forums before, we already had the time to discuss it with the team.

It's a design choice that we made to have the player commit into important strategic choices, of course it means using less Luxury Resources types than you might own but now the Marketplace is here to sell your stock of unused resources; also, other Luxury sinks will be implemented in the future.

Cheers

I agree, if you choose it per system its just another layer of system micromanagement/optimization.  It's much more of a strategic choice how it is now

I would like to see this be an option case-by-case.  The current model does force a player into tough decision-making and I am fine with that.  What I do not like is the lack of variety when upgrading systems.  It just seems stale, stagnant even.  When every system I upgrade gets the exact same bonuses when upgrading, it makes upgrading feel like a chore instead of an opportunity.  Just my thoughts.

I would like to propose a scenario that should make it apparent that such a static system is not a very good idea:

Let's say I am on a larger map with a bunch of other factions.  Throughout the game, people jockey for position.  In a series of wars, I am pushed from my original corner of the galaxy, but by being aggressive on another front, against a weaker enemy, I have managed to survive by taking over another region in a far corner of the galaxy.  The problem is, I do not have access to the original resources I need to develop any of my new systems.  Now, after all is said and done and I have narrowly escaped defeat at the hands of a mighty opponent, I am rewarded with a slow death on a handful of planets which will forever be Level 1 Bases.

Sorry, but it is just a bad system.  Making your entire empire dependent on a handful of resources that only appear in a single corner of a galaxy not only requires a constant obsession with holding on to a handful of star systems ... forever, it also makes absolutely zero sense.  It's Redsang, not Skooma.  Don't make my empire addicted to it.

I like the idea of being stuck with the first ones. It makes the decision more strategic and interested.

By the way I posted for help on how activating System Development with the new update. In any of my 3 games, I am missing the technology "First Contact" that I can't locate.

If you have any idea or fix, please let me know

You get First Contact when you enter Era II of tech.

Yep! Thanks for your answer.

I got a bug that I reported. played Sophons, already researched some Techs from Era2, First contact never poped.

You actually have to enter Era II.  Sophons have a Scientist Law that allows them to research an Era above their current Era.  That is not the same as being in Era II.  Once you research 10 techs from Era I, you will unlock First Contact.

Thanks for having taken the time to answer, MadMyke. but I got a true bug.

I went as high as Era 4 but First Contact didn't show. This is an early stage game, such things could happen.

If it is out-of-vision and the devs like the current system, could we at least have a better variety of luxury resource pooling. In the current setup, you end up with 3 or 4 resources and, since the market seems to not understand supply and demand and surplus liquidation very well, the prices of all resources skyrocket out of control even with an overabundance of a few resources.
